Revitalisation of the Farářství Sewage Pumping Station

Veolia Voda Česká republika, a.s. is at the present time launching the long-term revitalisation of water management facilities. The project is aimed at their better integration into the landscape, especially when it comes to facilities located in densely populated urban zones. On 21 April 2010, the Farářství Sewage Pumping Station in Hradec Králové became the first facility to be revitalised in this manner.

The partner of the revitalisation project is Office Depot, which in tandem with the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague is implementing the Trees for Life® environmental programme. "We are delighted that thanks to the long-term business co-operation with Veolia Voda CR and their engagement in our Trees for Life® environmental programme this year we will be able to plant some of the trees in the facilities managed by Veolia Voda CR," said Bart Sasse, Regional Vice President for Central and Eastern Europe, Office Depot. Two hundred and sixteen trees have been planted at the Farářství Sewage Pumping Station in Hradec Králové. "Within the Trees for Life® programme, Office Depot will this year plant a total of 28,486 trees, primarily in the Liberec and Posázaví regions," added Marcel Schmidt, Marketing Manager, Office Depot.

The activities pertaining to drinking water production and waste water purification pursued by the companies of the Veolia Voda group are in their very essence closely linked with nature. Veolia Voda, a member of the international Veolia Environnement group, first and foremost uses its own technological know-how and strives to minimise the environmental impact of its activities. In addition to its core activities, it also endeavours to contribute to improving the quality of life in the areas the company operates in other ways too.

"Within Office Depot and Veolia Voda's co-operation, 1,096 trees have already been planted," said Ondřej Beneš, Technical Director, Veolia Voda CR. Marcela Dvořáková, Communication and Marketing Director, Veolia Voda CR, added: "Veolia Voda has joined the activities within the International Year of Biodiversity declared by the United Nations for 2010 not only by implementing this project. We are also developing other projects that directly support conservation of the Earth's biodiversity, i.e. safeguarding the variety of life on our planet. In addition to'Trees for Life', we are also implementing the'Let's Give Back to Nature What Belongs to It' project, which aims to return salmon and eels to our rivers. Moreover, we are a partner of the originating'Water House', an environmental visitor centre at the Želivka reservoir. All these projects are in line with the social responsibility conception pursued by the entire Veolia Voda group in the Czech Republic."

Trees for Life® is an environmental programme of Office Depot, which for each 50 packages of Office Depot or Papirius paper sold plants a tree on behalf of the customer. The programme is being implemented under the auspices of the Faculty of Forestry, Wildlife and Wood Sciences of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague. Since 2003, when the Trees for Life project was launched, more than 200,000 trees have enriched the greenery of the Czech landscape.
