Veolia water is coming to Slovakia

Veolia Water, the water division of Veolia Environnement, has won two international calls for tenders for water and wastewater services in Slovakia.

The first call for tenders was launched by Stredoslovenská vodárenská spoločnosť of Banská Bystrica (StVS), which covers the central Slovakian region. The contract covers the production and distribution of drinking water and the collection and treatment of wastewater, along with the associated customer services. The contract signed for 30 years corresponds to an annual turnover of approximately SKK 1.57 billion.

The operating company, StPVS, a 100% owned subsidiary of Veolia Water, will be supplying some 650 000 residents of the Banská Bystrica region and will employ 1,400 people.

The other call for tenders was launched by Popradská vodárenská spoločnosť (PVS), which manages the water and wastewater services in Poprad and the surrounding municipalities. Under the 30-year contract, Veolia Water will be operating the water and sewerage systems and will be supplying services for some 300,000 residents. The annual turnover of the company is SKK 565 million.

"It is an honour for us that the representatives of the Slovak towns and municipalities have expressed their confidence in us and have selected us as their long-term partners. I am pleased that this way the delagated management system that has been well proven in the Czech Republic and other European countries and which enables the towns to exercise full control over the development of their investments, water and sewerage rates and over access to EU subsidies, is now entering the Slovak water services market", said Philippe Guitard, the CEO of Veolia Water for Central Europe and Russia.

Veolia Water thus becomes the leader on the Slovak water services market. It will be the provider of drinking water and wastewater services for some 950 000 residents of 750 towns and municipalities and will employ around 1,400 personnel.
